Arusha hosts Tourism Expo

More than 400 local and international exhibitors will participate at the International Tourism Day show in Arusha next week, alongside the East African Tourism and Travel Expo, which would bring together the sector leaders and dignitaries to highlight the role of tourism and peace in unlocking investment and growth in Tanzania. The organizers of Rethinking Tourism Africa (RTA) announced that the event will attract notable figures, including celebrities and tourism experts, such as American film producer Michael Ruggiero. Mr Ruggiero is currently involved in producing a high-end film titled Wings Over Tanzania, a reincarnation of the historic flights of Osa and Martin Johnson between 1929 and 1930.

The film aims to capture the stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife and rich cultural heritage of Tanzania, appealing to adventure seekers and nature lovers worldwide. “The project is expected to provide a massive boost to Tanzania’s tourism, with predictions of an additional three to five million visitors over the next five years,” said RTA Coordinator, Mr John Saragu. Wings Over Tanzania will be globally distributed and featured on major television networks in the U.S., helping to further elevate Tanzania’s status as a top travel destination.

By referencing the routes and experiences of Osa and Martin Johnson, Mr Ruggiero hopes to draw parallels between the past and present, showcasing Tanzania’s timeless allure. The three-day event will also feature key international speakers such as Mr Marcel Leijzer, Manager of Technical Partnerships at UN[1]Tourism and Ms Janine Wencke from Mascountor, South Africa. These influential individuals, along with other attendees, will discuss the theme of the 2024 World Tourism Day celebration: Tourism and Peace.

RTA is organizing the conference and expo in collaboration with the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA). According to Mr Saragu, attendance in this year’s event is poised to surpass last year’s, reflecting the resurgence of the international tourism market post[1]Covid-19. The event, taking place at the Gran Melia Hotel in Arusha, promises to be an important platform for entrepreneurs to connect with tourism business owners, directors, managers, academics and key decision[1]makers. “Anticipation for the event, opening on September 25, is growing globally, with many already calling it the most important conference and indoor exhibition ever held. It will undoubtedly be a milestone for Tanzania’s tourism sector, propelling it to new heights,” RTA Director, Mrs Edna Foya, said.
