Arusha RC vows to tackle land corruption with PCCB support

Arusha Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Paul Makonda, has pointed to the land sector as one of the most corrupt in the region, vowing to intensify efforts with the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) to protect residents’ rights from graft. Mr Makonda made these remarks during a recent meeting with PCCB Director General, Mr Crispin Chalamila, who had paid a courtesy visit to the RC’s Office in Arusha. “In the land sector, complaints are rampant. People feel forced to pay bribes just to receive basic services.

Some even bypass the system to avoid delays, resulting in disorganized urban development,” Mr Makonda stated. He stressed the importance of supporting PCCB officers in their work and ensuring that residents can access services without resorting to bribery. Mr Chalamila pledged to increase the number of PCCB officers in Arusha by November 2024 in response to Makonda’s request. He also underscored the need for electing leaders of integrity in the upcoming local government elections, which will be key in overseeing vital national projects.
