The Sheikh of Arusha Region, Shaban Juma Abdallah, has stressed the importance for Tanzanians to live peacefully together as one family, denouncing violence as being uncharacteristic of the nation’s culture and way of life.
“Any leader who calls for chaos after elections should be ignored,” said Sheikh Abdallah, adding: “Tanzanians are wise enough to understand that peace is the foundation of our society. War and disorder are not part of our identity.”
Speaking during the Eid El Fitri Baraza to celebrate the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan, organised by the Arusha District Muslim Council, a chapter of the Tanzania Muslim Council (BAKWATA), Sheikh Shaban said all religious teachings promoted peace and harmonious living for all people.
