WE PARENTS ARE HERE TO SUPPORT AND BLESS OUR CHILDREN

By Professor Raymond Mosha

My family was blessed with our parents and many children, five of whom grew up to adulthood. Of the five, one has been called by the Lord of Heaven and Earth. We were also blessed with the presence of grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and all kinds of relatives and neighbours.

There is one thing that was always present in this childhood experience and that has continued to this day. It was the blessings of our parents and grandparents. They took care of us in all ways imaginable and most of all, they always blessed us the children and grandchildren. These blessings have been the cement that bound us together as with bonds that cannot be broken.

Yes, I remember those blessings. Our parents also gave us whatever they owned, ‘mashamba’ and everything else. But the most memorable thing that we inherited from them is their blessings. There is no inheritance more precious than that. There is no inheritance that bits the value of the blessings of our parents, grandparents and other elders. Most of all, there is no inheritance that can be compared to the blessings that the Divine showers upon us every day. The blessings of our parents are only a human expression of those Divine blessings.

I am remembering these blessings that have glued our lives and that continue to support us because this week our family has a special blessing for our daughter who is preparing to get married. Now is the time to bless her in a special way. Now is the time that we call together family and friends to join us in giving these blessings to our daughter. Now is the time, above all, to call upon her Divine blessings that are the fountain from whom all human blessings flow from.

As we bless our daughter and wish her the best in her upcoming new life in marriage, we invite all parents, grandparents and all elders to continue doing what we are called to do: Bless our children and grandchildren and all people. That is the best gift that we can give to our children and grandchildren. In fact, that is the best gift that we humans are called to give to each other.

It has been my experience that our human life is meaningful, our human life comes close to being divine, when we take care of each other and bless one another. I cannot think of anything better than that to give to our daughter, our children and grandchildren.
