Women in sports and sex discrimination

Last week we discussed the young soldier who committed suicide in 2021. She had been pestered by a senior officer while her superiors would not take her complaints seriously.

Such struggles are everywhere, including sports.

I know a guy who never watches female football.

“I can’t bear seeing half-naked women running with the ball… showing parts of their bodies in public. Disgraceful. This is a man’s game,” he moans.

What about the Spanish Football chief, Luis Rubiales – fined over ten thousand Euros two weeks ago for kissing national striker Jenni Hermoso “on the lips” after the 2023 Women’s World Cup victory?

Do you remember the photograph?

Rubiales clasps the number 11 top goal scorer with two palms behind her head; his mouth fully “margarined” into hers.

That type of kissing is usually for intimate couples.

Luis said it was consensual.

Jenni Hermoso maintained it was non-consensual.

The prosecution called for a 2-year and half jail sentence.

The “lucky” man ended with just a fine.

Other female footballers expressed support, including London’s Chelsea player Lucy Bronze, who was quoted saying star Jenni Hermoso was brave to complain as she was kissed “without consenting.”

That is one angle.

And…

Worse.

Currently, shedding light on gender identity issues of women athletes even prompted President Donald Trump to declare:

“My administration will not stand and watch men beat and batter female athletes.”

On American Women and Girls Sports Day, beginning of February 2025, President Trump was reported to have signed “an executive order barring trans athletes from competing in women’s sports”

…meaning “only women assigned as female at birth would be able to participate under its umbrella,” London’s Guardian newspaper reported.

This topic is huge overseas.

An interesting example concerns the Algerian pugilist, Imane Khelif, who won the boxing Olympic medal in Paris 2024.

The Khelif drama is ongoing.

Throughout 2024, Khelif filed media lawsuits against medical teams, billionaire tycoon Elon Musk, and British author JK Rowling for cyber bullying.

Of the medical reports alleged to “online harassment”, an article by Matt Lavietes in August 2024 charged:

“Khelif’s participation in Olympic women’s boxing has been scrutinised in recent days after reports resurfaced that she and another boxer, Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan, failed to meet gender eligibility tests at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi last year. …Sporting officials alleged that the boxers failed an unspecified test because they had male chromosomes.”

Imane Khelif defeated Angela Carini of Italy after Carini quit 46 seconds into the match.

At the end of February 2025, the US government announced banning transgender athletes attempting to come to the USA and to issue permanent visa bans against those who are deemed to misrepresent their birth sex on visa applications.

Meanwhile, the struggle for women’s rights in sports and elsewhere continues.

Bless your eyes. Laway, if you speak Kimbulu.
