Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral ceremony of the former East African Community (EAC) Secretary General (SG), Ambassador Juma Volter Mwapachu (82), held at the Chumbageni family residence in Tanga on March 30, 2025.
Among them included the Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Mr Hamisi Mwinjuma (who is also MP for Muheza), Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Stephen Mbundi, Tanga Regional Commissioner (RC), Dr Batilda Burian, former Chief Justice Othman Mohamed Chande, MP for Bumbuli and former Minister for Foreign Affairs and EAC, Mr January Makamba, diplomat and prominent businessman Ambassador Ali Mpungwe, ACT Wazalendo leader, Mr Zitto Kabwe and Dr Masinde Bwire, who represented the current EAC Secretary General, Ms Veronica Nduva.
