By The Arusha News Reporter

The future of gender equality rests on empowering the youth as the next generation of advocates for change, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said.

Addressing the nation from the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha at the climax of celebrations to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, President Samia said the government will continue to implement various policy and legal frameworks for gender equality.

“The celebration of International Women’s Day is an opportunity to evaluate the progress made and take action to ensure that every girl and woman in the country has equal opportunities to fulfill their dreams,” she reminded the women.

She said Tanzania had made significant achievements to meet the goals set by the Beijing Declaration on gender equality set at the conference chaired by veteran Tanzanian politician, Ms. Gertrude Mongella in Beijing, China in 1995 – now 30 years ago.

The President noted that Tanzania had made laudable advancements in education, justice, economic activities, and political participation for women across the nation.

While congratulating the thousands of women who participated in the celebrations, including those in the women’s processions from various economic sectors, the President praised the women’s collective strength. She emphasized that women were a big, powerful, and reliable force for change if they united both in strength and purpose.

Earlier, the Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Dr. Dorothy Gwajima, hailed hardworking women for their dedication and determination to ensure peace and sustained progress to uplift Tanzanians—both men and women.
