The 47th Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers is expected to finish its four-day session in Arusha today, during which members discussed the drafting of a model constitution for a political confederation and framework for regional election observers.
Under the increasing trend to embrace technology, the meeting was both physical and virtual as members also discussed the EAC’s budget for 2025/26, reviewed the financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2024 and the Secretary General’s progress report, all key issues driving the regional integration agenda, according to the EAC press release.
Speaking during the opening session, the EAC Deputy Secretary General for Customs, Trade and Monetary Affairs, Ms Annette Mutaawe Ssemuwemba, highlighted the importance of the meeting in steering the integration process forward. “It’s essential we advance our integration goals with shared vision and clarity,” she said.
