EACCIA, EAC strengthen ties to boost regional trade

The East African Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (EACCIA) and the East African Community (EAC) have pledged to collaborate more closely to deepen regional integration and spur economic growth. In a recent meeting held at the EAC Secretariat in Arusha, the Chief Executive Officer of EACCIA, Mr Charles Kahuthu and Secretary General (SG) of the EAC, Ms Veronica Nduva, discussed strategies to enhance trade, investment and private sector engagement within the region. “This was a productive initial meeting and we have agreed to explore ways to improve the business environment across the EAC,” Mr Kahuthu told ‘The Arusha News’. The discussions highlighted the pivotal role of the private sector in driving sustainable development. Mr Kahuthu praised Ms Nduva’s leadership in addressing barriers to trade and fostering inclusive economic growth. As the umbrella organisation for national chambers of commerce in EAC member states, the EACCIA bridges the gap between public and private sectors, advocating for unified efforts to promote trade, industry and agriculture. Through its initiatives, the organisation seeks to ensure the private sector takes a leading role in shaping East Africa’s economic future. The partnership is expected to pave the way for stronger regional chambers, better coordination and a more favourable environment for businesses within the EAC bloc, according to Mr Kahuthu.
