Arusha City residents have been registering at 462 centres to vote in civic elections set for later next month. The registration started on October 11 and closes tomorrow throughout the country. The Arusha City Director, Mr John Kayombo, t o l d journalists that the registration centers were carefully planned to avoid overcrowding. He urged Arusha residents to come out in droves to register and vote for their choice of leaders to oversee community development. The city has 617,631 people, according to the 2022 census. Statistics updated in 2021 show that the city and Arusha region’s six districts have 1,009,292 registered voters. The civic polls will see the election of hamlet chairpersons and five committee members, at least two of whom must be women to ensure gender balance per the election rules. Nomination forms for candidates aspiring to run for hamlet leadership will be available from November 1 to 7. Any objections to the candidates should be submitted on November 8 and 9, with rulings on the objections made by November 10. Campaigns are scheduled to run from November 20 to 26, ahead of the election day on November 27. Meanwhile , reports from Dodoma said that approximately 45 percent of eligible voters countrywide had already registered for the upcoming Local Government Elections
