CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ARUSHA STADIUM REACHES 35 PER CENT

Construction work on the new multi-purpose stadium in Arusha, one of the venues selected for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has reached an impressive 35 per cent completion stage.

According to the engineers at the site, the project is progressing well, and even slightly ahead of schedule, raising hopes that the stadium could be ready before its initial target.

During a recent visit to the site, Arusha Mayor Maxmillian Matle Iranqhe was briefed on the developments and expressed great satisfaction with the work done so far. He praised the contractor, China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG), for the speed and quality of their work.

The stadium is set to be completed by April next year, which would be almost a year ahead of the 2027 AFCON tournament.

Arusha has been selected as one of the three Tanzanian cities to host matches in the prestigious continental soccer championship, alongside Dar es Salaam (Benjamin Mkapa Stadium) and Zanzibar (Amaan Stadium).

The AFCON 2027 tournament will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda — a historic move expected to strengthen regional unity and sports development.

Construction of the stadium began with a foundation stone-laying ceremony at the end of April 2024. Upon completion, it is expected to be a world-class facility, not only suitable for football matches but also for other major sporting and entertainment events, placing Arusha on the map as a major sports destination in East Africa.
