CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ARUSHA STADIUM REACHES 35 PER CENT COMPLETION

The construction of the brand-new multi-purpose stadium in Arusha — one of the key venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) — has reached an impressive 35 per cent completion stage.

According to engineers at the site, the project is progressing smoothly and is even ahead of schedule, a development that has been hailed by Arusha Mayor Maxmillian Matle Iranqhe, who recently visited the site.

This stadium, being built by the China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG), is designed to international standards and is set for completion by April 2026, almost a year before the AFCON games commence.

Arusha was selected among the three cities in Tanzania to host the prestigious African football tournament, alongside Dar es Salaam (Benjamin Mkapa Stadium) and Zanzibar (Amaan Stadium). The tournament will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

Construction of the stadium began with a foundation stone-laying ceremony at the end of April 2024, and upon completion, the facility is expected to have world-class amenities, suitable not only for football matches but also for other international sports and entertainment events.

This project is seen as a significant milestone in enhancing the sports infrastructure of Tanzania and positioning Arusha as a premier sports tourism destination in East Africa.
